Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder
Florian has always felt compelled to understand the way the world works. His curiosity moved him to study Electrical Engineering at Caltech (B.S. Cum Laude), to receive an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech. At GuRu Florian is thrilled to be building technology that will enrich people’s lives on a global scale. He is also proud to be building a community of passionate and like-minded engineers at GuRu.
As a co-founder at GuRu, Florian brings years of technology experience. At Axiom Microdevices, he helped define and implement high-frequency RF integrated circuits which have shipped more than 400 million units. At Agilent Laboratories (formerly HP Labs) he worked on clock and data recovery circuits as well as novel test and measurement systems. As a Caltech Lead Scientific Researcher, Florian guided engineering and operational aspects of implementing the microwave system at Caltech’s Space Solar Power Initiative.
Chairman of the Board, Co-Founder, & Chief Scientific Advisor
Ali is an inventor, entrepreneur, leading academic, and an expert in high frequency integrated circuits and systems. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, an IEEE fellow, a TR35 world top innovator, and a named inventor on more than 100 issued patents. Ali and his team are responsible for technological advances including millimeter-wave integrated phased arrays, CMOS RF power amplifiers, and optical phased arrays. Ali’s work at GuRu is motivated by a desire to connect seemingly unrelated things. He believes that innovation should lead to meaningful, humanistic change.
Before GuRu, Ali co-founded Axiom Microdevices, where CMOS power amplifiers shipped over 400 million units (and were based on the DAT technology he co-invented at Caltech). He also worked at Philips Semiconductors and Lucent Technologies (Bell Labs) advancing various RF technologies. He joined the faculty of Caltech in 1998, where he holds the Bren Chaired Professorship in Electrical Engineering and Medical Engineering, Directorship of the Holistic Integrated Circuit Laboratory, as well as co-Directorship of the Space Solar Power Project. Ali received his B.S. degree in Electronics Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer
A hardware hobbyist and International Physics Olympiad gold medalist—Behrooz has always been an avid inventor. He’s spent his life studying, learning, and exploring emerging technologies. His work at GuRu stems from a wish to share miraculous technology with the world at large.
At GuRu, Behrooz is responsible for the ongoing development of core technology and system architecture. Under his leadership, GuRu’s millimeter-wave technology has been developed into an accessible consumer product. Before GuRu, Behrooz helped develop system design and architecture in Caltech’s Space Solar Power Initiative. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Caltech.
VP Business Development
With an extensive track record in business development for companies with innovative products for consumer mobile and beyond, Kelly has long been helping partners solve one of their most important problems – Keeping devices powered! Kelly drove carrier, OEM and venue adoption of wireless charging as Powermat’s VP Sales & Business Development and afterwards at Energous as VP Business Development.
Kelly enabled record growth and multiple start-up acquisitions by Fortune 500 companies. At DSP Communications, as Director of Sales and Business Development (and 3rd US employee), Kelly drove North American revenue from $3M to over $45M (contributing to overall growth of $16M to $350M), fostering IPO & acquisition by Intel for $1.6B. Afterwards, she led strategic investments for RF wireless technology for Intel Capital. As Director of Business Development at TransChip, Kelly forged partnerships, enabling revenue tripling to $20M (over 2 years) and fostering Samsung’s acquisition. Kelly achieved record revenue and growth from $10M to $20M for Quake Technologies, enabling acquisition by AMCC. Kelly received her BSEE and MSEE from Santa Clara University.
